I started the kiln at 3:40 pm today, while my father was away at his 'real job'. I busied myself with cleaning the kiln room, breaking up pallets and cutting all the wood. While doing these simple things and keeping an eye on the kiln as the fires slowly burned, I was treated to some wonderful surprises. An incredibly powerful rain storm came hurtling through and completely drenched everything for 20 minutes, which was wonderful. In it's wake was an incredible sunset, a beautiful doe feeding quietly off in the corn field, and I spent some time picking some freshly washed vegetables from our garden. Here are some pictures of the scapes about to bloom from the garlic plants, as well as the sky getting ready for sunset :) A very relaxing beginning, to what is now (at 1:35 am and 1135* Celsius) going to be a very long night!
